Rats have long been considered pest animals.

However, faced with their intelligence making them easy to domesticate and their little face, more and more people are deciding to adopt them.

So much so that they now benefit from the status of NAC (New Pets).

However, they continue to arouse repulsion in some people, and a great fear that can go as far as phobia.

It is also called musophobia.

Rat Phobia

This persistent fear towards his animals comes from their bad reputation.

These rodents carry the image of animals that live in a dirty environment, opportunists who contaminate crops and stored food, which deteriorate electrical wires and pipes, which can attack babies, whose colony is very invasive and above all carriers of disease.

The fear of rats can also arise from a bad experience with these animals.

For example, a rat bite can lead to fear of re-contact with the rodent.

Often, it is not the animal as such that crystallizes the phobia.

It can be in particular its unpredictable nature, which refers to a lack of control by the phobic.

Or, by association of ideas, an unconscious representation, like for example its capacity to pass in the least interstice which can make a parallel with an intrusion in its intimacy.

Whatever the trigger for the phobia, it generated an emotional blockage.

The reptilian brain, marked in this way, sends out warning signals just at the idea of meeting a rat, and actually coming into contact, physical or visual, with the rodent further aggravates the discomfort.

However, this situation can be alleviated and the musophobia cured.
